His one win of the year came against UC Santa Barbara on April 5, when Cole came in for 1.2 innings of scoreless relief to garner a 4-3 victory over the Gauchos. Cole's longest outing of the year was on Mar. 7, when he gave the Tigers a 7.1 inning start against Gonzaga early in the season before the Tigers fell 8-4. Prior to that performance Akins fanned a season-high eight batters in 6.1 innings against Washington in a 10-1 loss on Feb. 29, adding significantly to his 33 season strikeouts. He also displayed poise and control on the mound over a four-game stretch in April, pitching without a single earned run in relief for Pacific. Cole continued to prove useful in many pitching roles throughout the year, earning one save as a closer against Stanford on Mar. 21, in Pacific's 10-6 victory.<b>2007 (Sophomore):</b><br>Cole developed into one of the Tigers' most versatile pitchers during his sophomore season. Akins appeared in 25 games in 2007, including six starts. Cole entered the 2007 season as a reliever and spot starter. Midway through the season, Akins was asked to serve as the closer, converting back-to-back save opportunities against San Jose State on Mar. 18 and UCLA on May 24. Against the Spartans on Mar. 18, Akins did not allow a hit during the final 1.2 innings of Pacific's 5-3 victory. Just under one week later, Cole limited UCLA to one run on three hits in Pacific's 4-3 victory. During the final six weekends of the season, Cole moved into Pacific's starting rotation. He finished the season with a 2-4 record, two saves and a 5.49 ERA.<b>2006 (Freshman):</b><br>In his first year with the Tigers, Cole appeared in five contests out of the bullpen. Akins allowed three runs on nine hits in 6.2 combined innings. Cole did not allow a run in three of his five outings in 2006.<b>High School:</b><br>Akins graduated from Eastside Catholic High School in Bellevue, Wash. in 2005. A three-year letterwinner in baseball, Cole was named the team MVP following his senior season. Akins finished 2005 with a .610 average, six doubles, three home runs and nine stolen bases. Cole also contributed for Eastside Catholic on the mound as he notched three saves. Following the 2005 season, Akins was named the All-Washington State Team, the All-Area Team and the All-Metro 3A First Team. He also earned the 101 club student athlete award.<b>Personal:</b><br>Cole Akins is the son of John and Vickey Akins. In his fourth year at Pacific, Cole is majoring in environmental studies.
